New Mexico on Film
Shaun's hobby of film photography is a really fun way to capture authentic moments. Since you basically get one shot per photo (unlike the dozens of identical images that I collect on my iPhone), it's super exciting to get the photos developed and revealed. Sometimes they're ruined by light leaks, sometimes the color is totally off, and sometimes it's a perfect imperfect photo.Scroll below to see our weekend in New Mexico through a film lens.
We made a quick pitstop in the Old Town of Albuquerque before driving up to Santa Fe. It was a sleepy shopping plaza, but plenty of authentic Native American stores and vendors.
Our Airbnb was an adorable pink adobe house– a perfect desert getaway about 20-30 minutes drive to downtown Santa Fe. The casita included three labs on the property, too! Check out the Airbnb listing.
Hiking the Tent Rocks National Monument was definitely a highlight of the trip! We had never explored slot canyons before and were in awe of the "tent" rock formations. A definite must-do in the Santa Fe area. Read more about the adventure here.
The Palace of the Governors in the Santa Fe main plaza downtown is the absolute best shopping for authentic Native American jewelry. I bought a small turquoise necklace pendant from this vendor. I wrote all about our full weekend experience in Santa Fe, in this blog post.
Santa Fe was an amazing destination for a weekend getaway. The history, culture and landscape was like nothing we've experience before! You really get a little bit of everything with the downtown experience surrounded by the vast desert. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn't visited NM yet!
